Once in twelve years, the slopes of the Western Ghats mountains are carpeted with the blue Kurinji (Strobilanthus) flowers. The mass blooming makes the hillslook blue. After the hectic floral activity, the plants die down and resurface again after 12 years.
In 2012, it was the turn of the hills of the Nilgiris to turn blue with flowers.....
This year, the Munnar hillsare awash with the Kurinji blooms.
The struggle between the Kurinji and the Tea plants is continuing. Sadly, the Kurinji habitat is being taken over by the dollar-earning tea......The Kurinji areas are dwindling , and with it many other life forms are disappearing.
My thanks to the team of Our world Tuesday and
