Justicia Carnea is also known as Jacobinia. These flowers bloom all through the year in my garden. Another advantage of these flowers is that they bloom even in the shade!
Head on to Today's Flowers where you can view what is blooming in other places.
D is for Danaid Eggfly butterfly Hypolimnas misippus which is a great mimic. The male butterfly has large white 'eyes' on its wings to scare away the predators, and the female mimics other unpalatable butterflies.
By daring and deceit, the Danaid Eggfly dominates the sun-drenched gardens.
This is my contribution to the delightful ABC Wednesday with due thanks to Mrs.Nesbitt and Roger.
Opuntia ficus indica, is called the Indian fig cactus, although it is not a native of India. You see them everywhere in the countryside now, profusely flowering in the hedges. The fruit of this cactus is edible. The cactus is very valuable to farmers in this time of drought, as it takes up very little water and makes a good guard against roaming cattle, and also makes good compost. The fruit of this cactus are used to make a liquer in Malta. The young pads are cooked and eaten as a vegetable in Mexico.
I thank the team of Our World Tuesday for hosting that wonderful meme.
