December Flowers

Dombeya, belonging to the Streculiaceae family is flowering for the first time in my garden. The bunches of pale pink flowers attract hundreds of bees and bumblebees.
Now is also the season for some of the succulents to flower.
December seems to be the month for white flowers. The tiny Snake Jasmine bush is bursting with blooms.
I feel so happy when I see the waterlilies blooming in my frog pond.

Uttara Kannada wildflowers

Uttara Kannada is a district in Karnataka state, endowed with dense forests and pristine beaches. Just after the rains, the forests are utterly beautiful with different kinds of wild orchids. The Seethe Dande, or Foxtail orchid is one of them.
The Draupadi Dande, Aerides orchid has sparser blooms, but is no less enchanting.
My thanks to Mrs.Nesbitt for starting the ultra-interesting ABCWednesday. Unbelievably, I have lost the other photos and have to ask for forgiveness from the understanding Roger.I hope I can unearth some for the next post.

T for Thunbergia

Thunbergias are vines with bright flowers which bloom throughout the year . The yellow one above is the Black Eyed Susan Thunbergia alata which is a wildflower in south India.
The King's Mantle, Thunbergia erecta has a rich purple colour, fit for a king's dress.
The white Thunbergia fragrans has no fragrance that I can discern:(
The Bengal Clock vine T.indica has large flowers in a beautiful lavender shade.
Thunbergia mysorensis, which is named after the beautiful city of Mysore, is the most spectacular of all. It sends out long chandeliers of gold and brown flowers.
This pink Thunbergia is a cousin of T.mysorensis, and not half so beautiful.
Although Thunbergias are natives of India and S.E.Asia, they are named after the great botanist Peter Thunberg of Sweden.
My thanks to the great team of Our World Tuesday.......

Colour and Joy

Santosh is a high school student who peddles balloons on Sundays and other holidays. His name means 'joy', which he brings to the little children in our suburb. In a world which is becoming increasingly full of lonely people, it is heartening to see a friendly and cheerful soul like Santosh.
This is my contribution to Our World Tuesday which brings great joy to me.Thank you, Sylvia and team!

Butterflies in my Garden

Now that the rains have abated and the sun is out, butterflies are flitting about in all the gardens. Whenever I am free, I am out with my camers, trying to capture those beauties in my camera.
The Blue Jay seems to love the flowers of the rattlepod.
I saw this strange newcomer yesterday evening, when he went to sleep soundly amidst leaves. He was not scared of predators, because he had a perfect camoflage among te leaves.
Many thanks to the team of Our World Tuesday where you can see interesting things happening in our world.

The people along the river grow coconut, arecanut and spices besides rice.
My thanks to the team of Our World Tuesday, where you will find many interesting posts.

Wildflowers of the Rainforest

The rainforests of the Western Ghats have a rich biodiversity. But the wildflowers are few, probably because of the darkness of the forest.
This is my contribution to Our World Tuesday.

Orchids

 Orchids are no ordinary flowers.
Ornate and beautiful, they are an ornament to any garden.
They can be observed one by one, or
 in a bunch.

Our own Orchid Society had organized an orchid show last weekend.

My thanks to OurWorld Tuesday and ABCWednesday. The latter was started by Mrs.Nesbitt and organized by Roger.
