The Pride of India tree Lagerstroemia speciosa which is also called the Giant Crepe Myrtle ,is in full bloom now. There are three main colours- pink, violet and white. The flowers attract bees and bumble bees in droves. The fruit of the tree , which is woody, and in the shape of a flower, is also attractive, and is used for flower decorations.
The tree itself has great medicinal value. It is used for hypertension, urinary dysfunction among other uses.

I have this in purple. The tree has just filled out with leaves, blooms will come in a bit. I saw these growing around town, and told DH I would like one. I called around and finally found one, not cheap either, but it is a joy each time it blooms. I think your pink one is very pretty. I have the normal crepes in a deeper pink color.

Beautiful shots. I have crepe myrtle trees but didn't know they were also called Pride of India so glad to know about that. Mine don't usually bloom until June or even later.
ReplyDeletePiękny krzew, którego nie znam i nie widziała. Pozdrawiam.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful shrub, which I do not know and did not see. Yours.
Great plant, and they stay in bloom for so long too - I have one in a pot as I don't have room for anything bigger. i am hoping it does well in a pot.
