Our World- Homes on Stilts

Meghalaya, a state in the nort-east of India experiences very heavy rains during the monsoon season. Cherrapunjee, the wettest place in the world, is located in this state.  This is a home in a village not far from Cherrapunjee. The houses in these places are built on stilts.
This is another house in the same village, where the owner has made use of tins of cooking oil to construct his outer walls. Recycling at its best!
My thanks to the team of Our World Tuesday who produce this wonderful meme every Tuesday.

  1. Interesting captures for the day and a great look at a part of your world! There have been times here in Seattle that I thought stilts would be a good idea -- but it's not as wet as Cherrapunjee! Hope you have a lovely week!

  3. Heh, whole house made from tins. Incredible, the builder should receive a medal for recycling so much.

  6. Houses on stilts are a good idea in flood-prone areas. We have a lot of those in Brisbane in Queensland.

  7. Oh wow! I know that India has a varied countryside with some very lush places and some very dry places. But I did not know it is also home to the wettest place on earth. I do like the look of houses on stilts. I first saw this in Australia where I believe it was so the air could circulate more than the water could pass through.
