Grasses Which Sustain

Grasses are the food factories of the world. Millions of humans are dependent on the grass called Rice for their sustenance. The picture above is a grass known as Job's Tears, which is also a food for many. Besides rice and wheat, we are dependent on the Sugarcane grass for sugar , and Bamboo grass for paper and other uses.
The desert grass Stipagrotis plumosa plays a major role in sustaining the ecology of the desert. It is a food for the desert animals, and a shady nook for the small birds. Its roots hold the shifting sands of the desert. Nitrogen fixing bactria in its roots make te soil fertile.

My thanks to the team of Our World Tuesday and to Mrs.Nesbitt and Roger of ABCWednesday.
