Yesterday afternoon there was a solar eclipse. It was an annular solar eclipse, where the sun appears as a ring of fire. We could see only the partial eclipse though. You can see the images of the eclipse on the ground beside the plants in the picture below.
The tiny holes between the leaves of the lemon tree under which these plants are kept act like pinhole cameras, and the image is received on the ground
You can see the image of the eclipsed sun like cresents beside the fern.
Aglaonema, Alocasia metallica,Ti plant, Peparomia and other foliage plants are in deep shade and could not get the eclipse.
Some of the begonias have not yet started flowering.
What a beautiful array of foliage and plants.
ReplyDeleteI like your idea of showing the plant and the eclipse through photos. Nice foliage too!
ReplyDeleteLove the plant-camera eclipse images! -Jean
ReplyDeleteNice viewing of the eclipse through the 'eyes' of your garden plants! Lovely plants, too!
ReplyDeleteLovely shots, light and shadows and colourfull leaves on your plants. That one on your first picture I gorw inside her in Norway :)
ReplyDeleteThat is the most ingenious match of astronomy and botany I have ever seen. There is a plethora of eclipse images on the net but these are the most interesting, well done.
ReplyDeletelove the way you showed the eclipse from the shadow on the ground. Great Begonias!
ReplyDeleteDi: Thank you.
ReplyDeleteGururaj:We physics teachers have our tricks!
Jeansgarden: Welcome and thanks for your encouraging comment.
Shailaja:I wonder if the plants sense the eclipse too!
Mia, the spider plant grows very easily here, but tulips don't.
Green Thumb: thanks for your comment. It means a lot to me.
Leavesnbloom: Begonias do well in this weather. Thanks for your comment.
Lotusleaf, your spider plant babies look wonderful. I have never reached that stage yet. The babies in my spider plant appear as whole miniature plants from the soil. You have done an excellent job with the eclipse being reflected through a plant's foliage. That's marvelous. This is certainly a very valuable photo. It should be published in the daily newspapers or magazine!
ReplyDeleteAutumn Belle, thanks for your comments. It means so much to me!
ReplyDeleteHi Lotus, that is so cool! Thanks for showing us and explaining what to look for. An excellent way to view the eclipse and save our eyesight! I love seeing the plants too. :-)
ReplyDeleteFrances
Frances, I am glad you liked it.Have a nice day!
ReplyDeleteThat is truly amazing. It makes me want to take my camera out for the next one, and I'll never look at dappled light the same way again!
ReplyDeleteCan you name the plant with the big purple leaves. I saw one - darker coloured at the Bahai Temple in New Delhi. Lovely site you have here. will bookmark it.
