Our World Tuesday

These rice fields are cultivated by a farmer living in the edge of the jungle.
On the other side of this thick forest, he also has a spice garden where he grows cinnamon, nutmeg, pepper, cloves and cardamom.
He lives with his extended family here in this 100 year old house. There is no other family living within 40 kilometres from his home. The children go to school by local bus.
For us city dwellers, life here seems so idyllic, with fresh air, greenery all round, and fresh, organic food every day, but they have their own problems.
My thanks to the team of Our World Tuesday, where you can glimpse life in different parts of our world.

  2. Everyone has their own problems no matter where we all live. For my money I choose the natural lifestyle over the city. I've lived out of town now for over 40 years and on a farm the last 20 of them.

  3. Yes it looks idyllic with fresh air all the time. That is also how our rural settings look like. Being also in the big city where pollution and hassles abound, i still also long for these settings, so when time permits i regularly go home to the province where my mother, sister and niece, nephew stay. However, weekends do not suffice for me!

  4. Your photos remind me of my childhood. We used to spend our winters with my grandparents in a rural setting. It does look idyllic but not having anyone for the next 40 kms must be difficult at times.

  7. 40 kilometers from a neighbor is too far! maybe a weekend, for full time? what if someone would get sick? oh well, the family is probably healthy being away from pollution.:p
