I found these eco-friendly brooms and baskets made out of plant material in a shop in the Bazaar. The brooms at the centre of the picture are made from the spines of the coconut leaves, and the pale brooms next to them are made from a special kind of grass which grows in the jungle. The baskets are woven from bamboo. The brooms at the extreme left hand corner are the most expensive. They are made from a special grass imported from Assam. These brooms and baskets are essential tools in gardens.

Really nice collection there. I can't understand why brooms made of (the spine of) coconut leaves are not sold in our markets here. We have to make our own or I give the leaves to my help who in turn gets it made elsewhere for a small fee!
ReplyDeleteHope your day is good!!
Great stuff, that!
ReplyDeleteThose are great! I'd love to have some! Hope your week is off to a good start!
ReplyDeleteSylvia

ReplyDeleteThat are interesting items! Good collection too! I have the broom made from coconut leaves!
ReplyDeleteall these are now replaced by plastic :(
ReplyDeleteThese are lovely - my mum uses them (in Kerala) and those are made from Coconut tree leaves. I've always thought baskets like these add so much character to a kitchen.
ReplyDeleteYou have a nice blog here!
Such pretty baskets. Here in California, I've only seen broom made of straw or plasic. Those are quite lovely.
ReplyDeleteI use eco-friendly brooms made of broom grass. There are many natural items made of bamboo, reed, wisteria vine, and other grass.
ReplyDeleteRegarding your comment on my blog, I'm very much interested in purple Himalayan irises.
I've seen a picture of bule Himalayan poppies. They were incredibly beautiful.
Have a happy week!
These are in still use in most of the homes.
ReplyDeleteintersting psot. Thank you. :)
ReplyDeleteI love the way natural brooms like that look.
ReplyDeleteI love to be eco-friendly. In Japan, most of people use electric cleaners to clean inside a house. But in cleaning a garden, we use brooms made of natural materials like bamboo. I feel better when I use a broom. But, it is hard to resist efficiency of electric cleaner. Thank you for your ispiring blog.
ReplyDeleteLotusleaf, have a nice day!
