THis heliconia is upright. Its shape reminds me of some kind of ancient weapon.
The lobster claw heliconias are flowering profusely now. Each plant is vying with its neighbour to send out a longer bract.
Squirrels like to eat these flowers . I wonder if there is anything that deters the squirrels.

ReplyDeletei love your collection of heliconia..we don't have squirrels here but we do have mice that love to crawl into many places like these plants to establish a nest...never a fun thing to discover if you want to cut some of the flowers down for a display.

Beautiful photos lotusleaf and it must be so wonderful to have these growing in your garden. I don't think there is anything to deter a squirrel - we get them here all the time and climbing up the walls of the house.
ReplyDeleteIn answer to your question it's a waterlily tulip due to the shape of its petals when it opens in the sun.
