These flowers were growing in the wild in the Himalayas. They look like Wisteria, but I am not sure whether it is wisteria.
Wisteria or Wistaria as it is sometimes spelled, is named after the scientist Henry Wistar.
The flowers are pea shaped and profuse.My grateful thanks to the team of the meme 'Today's Flowers" for hosting the interesting meme.

I'm wondering if the flowers are scented. I have a white flowering wisteria in my garden. It has a wonderful scent and the bees love its flowers :-)
ReplyDeleteAs Patsi says, it does ususally wrap around but in my case its a Pergola post. One of the strongest characteristics is its fantastic twisted almost rope like main stems that contort into wonderful shapes.
I've never seen a tree variety but the leaves and flowers look like wisteria to me too. Thanks for sharing this. Thanks also for popping by my blog. As you will have seen my wisteria flowers are still in bud. It's always an exciting moment when they open :-D

These are very common here in Himachal, There are small thorns at the base of the leaves.
Patsi, I believe it is a White Locust tree, also known as False Acacia.

ReplyDeleteIt is very beautiful. Maybe it is not Wisteria, because it is viny as i've seen in Sweden and Turkey, as well as the photos of some bloggers from Europe here. You said it maybe locust tree, is it the one whose seeds are made into gum or galactomannans?
